What He Says... About 2012

We saw a lot of changes, progress, and unfortunately some setbacks and a horrific closing to 2012. History was made. Lives were changed. My hope is that people will learn to accept each other as they are and let each other be. Its such a simple concept yet so incredibly hard to put into action for so many. I've asked the men of What He Says to reflect on the year that was 2012, and how/if its changed their views/goals.

D.H. Starr:
2012 was a year of finding balance for me. I got back on my feed a couple years back after losing my job and have slowly been getting back to where I’d been before I ever left New York. Lots of stuff happened this year which has really caused me to redefine what’s important and what’s trivia. For instance, I’ve dealt with some of the uglier sides of people this year, seeing just how mean people can be. On the flip side, I’ve also seen how supportive and wonderful people can be as well. I’ve stopped focusing so much on being perfect at my job and have actively carved out time for me to do things for myself. Like writing. I’m not writing as fast as I’d like and my concentration doesn’t last as long, but I’m plugging away consistently, working on getting the stories out of my head and onto the page. But first and foremost, I want to spend time going out, dating, and finding a special someone. Sharing my life with a man who shares his is the most important thing I can think of besides spending time with family.

Thorny Sterling:
This is actually a difficult answer to come up with for me right now because so much of the really recent things are sticking with me. I’m recovering still from breaking my wrist, I’ve just finished another semester of college, I was thrown completely off-balance by a person I thought was an honest and good friend, and there’s a few things up in the air about my job just now. So it feels like I’ve barely wrapped anything up for the year even though I have actually accomplished some things. There are a few things I’m really proud of myself for this year: Managing to be level-headed and diplomatic about a few incidents; getting some amazing stats on my new blog; pushing myself creatively in writing and painting; and making and keeping some absolutely wonderful friends.

Edmond Manning:
Big things happened in my world this year! I was published in February and that introduced me to an entire world of people, responsibilities, deadlines, and research. I encountered greater self-doubt, some surprising highs, and for the first time in my life, people read my fiction and posted opinions on it. Wow. But when I think about the year’s conclusion, I end up focusing on interactions with individuals. My year was shaped less by events and more by those people who I met and loved. My biggest achievement of this year was not my initiative, but something I participated in: Minnesota’s Vote No campaign. We became the first state to successfully stop the well-oiled, right-wing, religious machine of state constitution-level discrimination. Whooooooooooooo hooooooooo!

And that's a wrap for What He Says 2012! Our first post of 2013 will be Thursday, January 3rd! Unless, of course, the Mayans were right... ;-)

And don't forget, if you have any topics, questions or photos you'd like the guys to tackle, just shoot them my way. We'll make sure you get the credit...if you want it, that is.
